ATTENTION! Due to people who don't have the courtesy to ask if they may copy your story, instead of writing their own and taking photos without asking, this website has made private and visitors will have to obtain a password from me. I regret doing this, but someone copied my entire website and posted it in the public trees on Ancestry.

As past visitors know, I have always helped and shared with anyone who asks. It is with great sadness that I am being forced to do this.

All photos have been removed and will be reloaded as time permits. NO PHOTOS ARE TO BE COPIED FROM THIS SITE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. Some of these photos have been shared by other descendants. Please be courteous and respectful to those who have been kind enough to share their photos for viewing. Most of these photos are also still under copyright. John Mahlon CARDER was born in Culpeper County, Virginia, about October 1822. His father's given name has not been found. He died about 1848. His mother's given name was Elisabeth, maiden name unknown. She was born about 1803 and died after 1850. John's known siblings were Joseph (b. about 1828-d. after 1850), Susan M. (b. about 1831-d. between 1850-1855), married Moses STEEN, Adaline (b. about 1834-d. before 1878), married Thomas STEEN, Stephen (b. about 1838-d. after 1860), and Nancy Ann (b. about 1842-d. 15 March 1865), married Mercer BEASON.

John served in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry as a teamster during the Civil War. He was captured near Nashville and was a POW for eight months and thirteen days.

John was married three times. His first two wives both died quite young. His third wife was Eliza Jane DOBBINS, my great great grandmother to whom he remained married until his death.

John had a son and daughter with his first wife. John and Eliza Jane had six children. Nathan Isaac CARDER and Mary Alice ALFORD were my great grandparents. They had 4 children. Their son,Wilbur Silas ("Nick")was my grandfather. My father was Wilbur's son, Charles E. Carder. For the details removed from this introduction because of the unethical person on Ancestry, ask me and I'll e-mail the complete story. For more information on my mother's family, click on the Cheney, Copus and Neely links below.

I'm always glad to find new "cousins" and would like to hear from anyone who finds an ancestor on this website. I have been searching for John Mahlon CARDER's parents' names for years and hope that someone may know who they were and can link their CARDER ancestors to mine. I also hope to find some "cousins" from the DOBBINS line. I would be happy to share and exchange info with anyone who finds an ancestor or ancestral surname on my website.
At the Ohio Genealogical Society's 2005 Conference, I was inducted into Civil War Families of Ohio through John M. CARDER. If you are a direct ancestor of a Civil War veteran, you are eligible to join Civil Families. This is a great way to honor your ancestor!

Future websites are planned for my other main surnames and will be listed in the links below. Click the links below for my CHENEY, COPUS and NEELY websites. Other sites to be added are HALL, MASON, and MORRIS.

Please sign my guest book. You may leave comments or information about your Carder ancestors in the guest book. Be sure to leave your e-mail address so that I may send you a reply and so that others from your line will be able to contact you. That way, I will have all of the Carder descendants' e-mail addresses. Should you find someone from your direct line and wish to contact them and no e-mail address is posted for them, then you will be able to contact me and I will contact that person for you. Some of the e-mail addresses I have are not current. If you are not sure whether I have your current e-mail address, please e-mail me and send your current one. I would be happy to hear from you.

The purpose of this website is for Carder descendants to have a place to find each other and share and exchange our Carder family history. My guestbook may be used as a message board and place that you can leave information about your branch of the family and any questions you have about the family and connect with each other if you wish.

     Enjoy!
